Today 29th June marks the day the licensed trade gets its time to come back.
“Who wants to be first over the top”
If it was my call I would hold and see how those who feel they have to come back into the market do, but remember the last shocks the industry took …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
So here we go, this is nothing like anything we had to face in the recent past or even the old days.
In the recent past we had a chance, mainly because if we could get the numbers in, the chance of a decent profit (if you ran everything right), were good.
In the old days once you moved with the new trends your chances were good.
This time the odds are in no way favourable, less numbers, more costs, another possible change in pub culture and for those who are in anyway complacent about controlling the actual day to day profit, it is likely that their business will fail.
If one considers that after the crash the industry had a larger than ever problem with internal fraud. Pubs, restaurants and hotels that thought they were doing alright were actually taking huge hits to their bottom line by in some cases obvious fraud in other cases there were very clever “cliques” on the crew.
Besides that, the big concern is how much disposable income will the future customer have and if he or she does have money to spend would they spend it in a premise that now has to struggle to get an atmosphere conducive to having fun enough to spend.
A great deal more assistance is needed to support reopening, lines of communication need to be crystal clear not the current “fog” that those who are first opening are going to walk into.
So, think long and hard before you decide to open – before you go “over the top” you should have at the very least proper covering fire from those that are expecting vulnerable operations to take the chance.
